Result: Senegal 0-1 Algeria

Date: 19 July 2019

Venue: Cairo International Stadium

Algeria

Algeria secured their second Africa Cup of Nations title as Baghdad Bounedjah's solitary strike secured a 1-0 win over Sadio Mane's Senegal at the Cairo International Stadium.

The Lions Of Teranga made two changes to the side that narrowly beat Tunisia in the semi-finals, with Salif Sane replacing the supsended Kalidou Koulibaly, while Ismaila Sarr earned a start after impressing from the bench in that match.
Algeria had a dream as a strike from Baghdad Bounedjah in the second minute of the match took a wicked deflection off Saneā€™s foot and looped over goalkeeper Alfred Gomis, who could only watch the ball sail into the net.
Aliou Cisseā€™s charges were finding it difficult to respond immediately, with the North Africans not giving them time and space on the ball. However, Henri Saivet tried his luck with a strike from range in the 28th minute that was eventually smothered by shot-stopper Rais Mā€™Bolhi at his near post.
Senegal had the momentum and Mā€™Baye Niang nearly levelled matters six minutes before the break with a sensational half-volley that sailed inches wide of the upright.
The Lions of Terangal came out firing in the early stages of the second stanza and they were nearly given a lifeline on the hour-mark after the referee initially awarded a penalty after the bal appeared to strike Adlene Guedioura on the arm. However, the match official reviewed the incident on the Video Assistant Referee monitor and over-turned his own decision.
The Lions Of Teranga were getting closer to the equaliser with 20 minutes remaining, as Youssouf Sabaly unleashed a powerful drive from just outside the box that was parried away heroically by Mā€™Bolhi.
Sarr had a wonderful opportunity to pull Senegal level in the last eight minutes after the ball dropped kindly inside the box, but he got under it too much and sent his volley over the crossbar.
